Russia midfielder Andrei Mostovoy has stated that the absence of key Nigerian players like Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and Alex Iwobi from the Super Eagles lineup does not pose a challenge for his team.
Mostovoy noted that Russia has previously faced both weaker and average opponents without difficulty.
Recently, Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle revealed his squad for the upcoming international friendly against Russia scheduled for early June.
Chelle later clarified that the exclusion of Osimhen, Lookman, and Iwobi was intentional, aimed at providing chances for emerging talents.
Speaking to the media on Monday ahead of the encounter, Mostovoy said, via TASS, “We have normal opponents in June. Belarus was there last year, it will be very interesting with Nigeria.
“The fact that some of the stars of the Nigerian team will not come does not change anything in terms of the team’s mood, we have played with weaker opponents before.
“Nigeria is a very interesting opponent, it will be interesting to play. Of course, we will go into this match with maximum mood.”
