Saudi Super League picks two players to replace Cristiano Ronaldo

As replacements for Cristiano Ronaldo, the Saudi Pro League has selected Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes and Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah as potential ambassadors for the league.

There are talks regarding Ronaldo’s potential exit from the club.

At the age of 41, Ronaldo has become the most renowned player in the Saudi league since his arrival in the Kingdom in December 2022 on a free transfer after over two decades of playing in Europe with four different clubs.

Ronaldo secured a lucrative new deal with Al-Nassr in 2025, lasting until the following summer.

Ronaldo may depart this summer due to his remark regarding the club owners, PIF’s lack of sufficient support for the team in comparison to other clubs during the recent transfer window.

In his new contract, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has a clause worth £43 million that will activate at the end of the season.

Should he go with that option, a source from the Saudi league informed The i Paper, as reported by Sport Bible, that Salah or Fernandes would be excellent choices for the league:

“Salah and Fernandes would be ideal choices, especially Salah, because he would draw in an Arab audience as a Muslim.

“Either of those newcomers, plus that young talent, would be really big for us.”

Ronaldo was absent from the Knights of Najd’s 1-0 Saudi Pro League victory over Al-Riyadh on Monday and also missed the 2-0 home win against Al-Ittihad on Friday, raising questions about his position in the team.

Salah and Fernandes are both key players for their respective teams. Since the summer of 2017, Salah has been playing for Liverpool and has netted over 250 goals across all competitions.

Fernandes, the captain of United, has been with Old Trafford since January 2020 and has netted more than 100 goals.
