Security concern remains important to Southeast governors – Otti

Notwithstanding political affiliations, the governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, stated that the governors of the South East are cooperating to accomplish regional integration.

This was said by Governor Otti on Friday during a meeting with a delegation from the South East Council of Traditional Rulers, which was led by Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, the Obi of Onitsha, and included representatives of Igbo archbishops and bishops.

According to him, the governors continue to prioritize matters of general concern, such as security, since significant progress cannot occur in an environment of instability.

As the governors continue to meet to discuss challenges impacting the region, Governor Otti stated that governance is the most important priority for the South East Governors.

He assured the Igbo leaders that South East Governors have been getting together to discuss the region’s concerns, notwithstanding their affiliation with various political parties.

“Anyhow you “look at it, we must deal with security as a region if not as a country. What feeds insecurity, to a large extent, is unemployment and poverty. It also feeds banditry, and we need to do everything possible to ensure that our people have something to do,” Otti said”

The governor revealed that one of his plans was to improve Aba, saying that he had a clear idea of what needs to be done regarding administration. He thinks that Aba has the capacity to develop the entire Southeast region.

Dr. Otti revealed that the 141 Megawatt Geometric Power Plant in Aba will go into operation on Monday, providing continuous power supply to Aba and its surroundings, encompassing roughly nine LGAs. He also revealed that power supply is the primary enabler needed to spur development in Aba and the entire Southeast region.

Before this, the delegation’s Nnaemeka Achebe stated that the organization, established three years ago, primarily aims to promote peace and reconciliation in the Southeast, emphasizing that progress is impossible without peace.

Igwe Achebe revealed that the team had communicated remotely with a few of the zone’s governments.

He complimented the governor for using state resources to further the development of Ndi Igbo. He said the group projects peace, mutual respect, love, and community well-being.

To achieve economic success, he emphasized that Ndi Igbo must create a nation inside a nation and urged other South East governors to unite to integrate the region.

Professor Pat Utomi and Igwe Lawrence Agubuzu, the head of the South East Traditional Rulers Council, were among the other Joint Body members present for the visit.
