Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini has clarified that he did not intend to insult Ademola Lookman following his comments after the team’s loss to Club Brugge.
Gasperini had criticized Lookman for taking a penalty kick in the 2-1 defeat, calling him “one of the worst penalty takers” he had ever seen.
In response, Lookman expressed that he found the remarks disrespectful.
Now, Gasperini has explained that he did not mean to offend the Nigerian forward.
“Lookman felt offended, but I didn’t want to offend anyone. He entered with fantastic approach against Club Brugge,” he was quoted by TMW.
“If he starts training to improve on penalties… with his exceptional skills Ademola can become our first penalty taker.”
