Serie A: Lookman one of world’s best players – Atalanta boss, Gasperini

Ademola Lookman is currently among the top players in the world, according to Gian Gasperini, manager of Atalanta.

Lookman’s hat-trick in the UEFA Europa League final versus Bayer Leverkusen was a major factor in his 14th-place finish in the 2024 Ballon d’Or.

The 27-year-old is favourite to win the African Player of the Year.

Last Saturday, La Dea defeated Napoli 3-0 thanks to two goals from the winger in the first half.

Since joining the team, the Nigerian has advanced quickly, according to Gasperini.

“He (Lookman) has had a fantastic evolution. Lookman already did well alongside Rasmus Hojlund, then had Gianluca Scamacca and De Ketelaere as partners before Retegui.

“At this moment, he is among the top players in Europe and that means on the world stage too,” the Italian told a press conference ahead of his side’s UEFA Champions League clash with Stuttgart.

“He is still in the running to win the African Player of the Year Award, but the most important thing is his evolution and consistency.”
