Former senator, Shehu Sani, has urged Nigerians advocating for the formation of new states to abandon the idea, calling it an unproductive use of time and resources.
Sharing his thoughts on his verified X account on Friday, Sani encouraged citizens to prioritize harmony and mutual understanding instead.
He emphasized that the establishment of new states involves a highly intricate constitutional procedure, and cannot simply be initiated through a presidential declaration.
“People asking for the creation of new states should stop wasting their time and resources. They should learn to live with each other in peace. Read the constitution to know the complications. It’s not something which the President will just proclaim or announce,” he wrote.
Recent times have seen a growing demand across the country for the creation of more states.
