According to a true Nollywood story, an American returnee named Peter Mokwuah, reportedly was imprisoned in his own home by his siblings for up to a year in a community in Anambra. During that time, he got malnourished and waited to die.
Ifunanya Mokwuah, the victim’s daughter who had to take a plane back to Nigeria in order to save her father, told the tale.
Ifunanya claims that after 25 years of living and working in New York, her father chose to return to his village, where he had constructed a palace for himself and his family, after retiring.
Before abruptly ceasing in 2020, everything appeared to be going well, and he was keeping in touch with his family in the US on a regular basis.
As the eldest daughter, Ifunanya claimed that she found this fascinating because she was very close to her father and could not fathom what might prevent him from contacting her for months at a time.
She claimed that a lot of her calls to her father went unanswered, and when they did, her aunt would answer and occasionally claim that her father was upstairs while she was cooking in the kitchen.
At other instances, the aunt would inform her that Peter was doing fine while she was away from home, and she would request that he give her a call back when she returned. He didn’t.
Ifunanya was quite concerned after not receiving a direct message from her father for approximately six months. She was unsure of his whereabouts. Ifunanya recounted how the Holy Spirit told her that she needed to go to Nigeria in order to save her father, and she complied in a series of videos in which she gave her story.
He claimed that because her father owned a mansion and cars, as well as a monthly pension of $5,000 (about N7.5 million), he could never be in financial need. She added that she frequently sent him money again after that, particularly when they didn’t hear from him and assumed he had run out of money.
Ifunanya claimed that in January 2022, she requested a two-week leave of absence from her job and traveled to Nigeria.
After spending a portion of her vacation in Lagos, she traveled to their hamlet in Enugwu Ukwu, only to discover that a truckload of sand had been placed in front of her father’s gate, blocking all traffic. She spotted other signs of trouble after climbing across the sand and hammering the gate, but that was the first indication she saw.
She claims that her aunt and uncle came out and angrily demanded to know why she was in Nigeria.
“They threw sand on me and called me a prostitute, telling me to go away”, she recalled.
According to Ifunanya, she insisted on going into her father’s compound and wouldn’t leave. She recalled that young people and villages were drawn to the disturbance and demanding to know what was going on.
After persuading them that she was the compound’s first daughter, the villagers started to question the aunt, Josephine, and uncle, Frances, about why they were keeping a daughter from seeing her father.
According to reports, the crowd tried to beat Frances and Josephine for what they described as an abomination, but the elders shielded them.
The ground level of the three-story palace her father constructed in the village was accessible, according to Ifunanya.
According to Ifunanya, Josephine then stated that her father had gone to Abuja and called another Peter brother who remained in Abuja.
Uncle Christopher, the brother, confirmed that Peter was with him in Abuja, but he left the house and promised to call Ifunanya back.
Ifunanya claimed that after the Holy Spirit informed her that it was untrue and that her father was upstairs, she insisted on seeing her father’s chamber.
Ifunanya discovered her father on a filthy mattress on the floor when the young people forced their way inside after some opposition.
His beard and nails were long and messy, and his legs were already thin. Ifunanya claimed that seeing her father in that state caused her to cry. She claims that her father recognized her right away and was overjoyed to see her, seemingly believing that at last his salvation had come.
