A 68-year-old father accused of drugging his two daughters and r@ping them for a year has been arrested by Brazilian authorities.

In a makeshift jail in his house, the elderly man—who Juazeiro do Norte police did not name—allegedly bound the girls to two mattresses encircled by rotting garbage and human waste.

Police-obtained evidence photographs show a distressing scene: a girl with her feet chained together in a homemade restraint, and her sister lying unconscious on a bed that is clearly stained.

Both sisters seemed remarkably skinny and were reportedly severely malnourished and dehydrated. After receiving a tip from a neighbor, they were saved during a police raid on May 5.

Police were informed by sources that they thought he had been mistreating them for a year or more.

In an emergency room in the area of Limoeiro, the sisters, who are 36 and 38 years old, are recuperating.

When their mother left the house for a hospital visit a year ago and never returned, police suspect their father started r@ping them.

One neighbour said: ‘I always suspected something was wrong, but we never imagined it was this horrific.’

After being brought to the Women’s Defence Police Station in the city, their father was accused of psychological abuse, cruelty, domestic assault, and unlawful incarceration.

After his daughters have been evaluated medically for indications of sexual abuse, he may also be charged with rape.

In order to “keep his daughters from falling out of their beds,” he allegedly informed police that he had tied them up.
