In a nationwide speech on Tuesday regarding the crisis engulfing Rivers State, President Bola Tinubu appointed Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (Rtd) as Administrator to oversee the state’s operations.
According to information obtained by ZINGTIE, the president made the announcement following a six-month suspension of Siminalayi Fubara, the state governor.
Ngozi Odu, the deputy governor, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly are also suspended by the president in accordance with the constitution.

Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, the retired Chief of Naval Staff and the military administrator of Rivers State, was born on September 27, 1960.
Born in Nigeria, a native of Nko in Cross Rivers State, he served as the 22nd Chief of Naval Staff from 2015 until 2021. From 1979 till his retirement in 2021, he was a member of the Nigerian Navy.
He completed his elementary schooling at Big Qua Primary School in Calabar in 1971 after beginning at Nko Primary School in 1966. He went to Hope Waddell Training Institute Calabar from 1972 to 1976.
He enrolled in Ogoja’s School of Basic Studies in 1977. After enrolling in the Nigerian Defence Academy in 1979, he worked in a variety of roles until becoming the Chief of Naval Staff.
He took a number of domestic and foreign military courses while serving, such as the 1992 Amphibious Warfare School at the U.S. Marine Corps University in Virginia and the National Defense College in Islamabad, Pakistan.

Mr. Ibas, 64, received multiple honors during his tenure, including the Forces Service Star and ECOMOG Medal. Former President Muhammadu Buhari bestowed upon him the title of Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR).
