When Ella, then six, saw her mother being restrained by police, she shot and killed a 28-year-old American police officer last month.

When Ella’s mother went into a supermarket to buy a 75-inch television, she left her in the car. After finishing her purchase, she was stopped at the store’s exit and asked to provide her receipt, as per store regulation.

However, she couldn’t find it after searching everywhere. She then returned to the cashier who had provided the receipt and asked him to explain to security that she had legitimately bought the television. The cashier validated her allegation, but a security guard insisted that she must provide the receipt before leaving.

When the woman tried to leave in frustration, the security guard and two policemen confronted her and told her not to put the TV in her car. The officers would not listen to her explanation of the problem.

As she screamed that she was having trouble breathing and argued that she wasn’t a thief, they restrained her by pushing her hard to the ground.

Ella was still in the car when she noticed her mother gasping for oxygen and straining. She looked for her mother’s gun out of fear for her life, located it, and got out of the car. Pointing the gun to one of the officers, she threatened to shoot him if he didn’t free her mother.

Apparently underestimating the toddler, the police disregarded her warning and kept holding her mother. Ella shot him many times in the face in retaliation, quickly killing him. Then, as her mother came to, she lowered the gun, lifted her hands in surrender, and remained still.

Ella and her mother were caught right away by the second officer, a woman, who also called for assistance. They were arrested.
