The Niger State Police Command has successfully dismantled a baby trafficking ring, rescuing a six-month-old infant from exploitation and bringing four suspects, including the baby’s cousin, to justice.

The baby’s mother had briefly left her child in the care of her cousin, Joy Nuaw, on Saturday, while she stepped out to run an errayand.

Upon her return, it was gathered that the mother discovered both the baby and Joy were nowhere to be found.

She immediately contacted Joy, who falsely claimed to have left the baby in the house with the door locked.

However, investigations revealed that there was no break-in, and the door remained locked, prompting the mother to report the issue to the local police.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiib Abiodun, confirmed the development in a statement, revealing that four suspects were arrested on January 25, 2025, at around 9 am by police operatives attached to Maje Division.

The suspects arrested include Joy Nuaw, 20, from Nasarawa, Favour James, 25, from Kwamba, Ezekiel Emmanuel, 30, from Kwamba, and Patience Obana, 23, from Kubwa, Abuja.

“Upon the return of the mother, she discovered that the baby and Joy were not at home, and she immediately contacted the said cousin who claimed that she left the baby in the house and locked the door”.

During the investigation, Abiodun revealed that it was discovered that there was no forced entry into the room, leading to the questioning of neighbors.

“Emmanuel Ezekiel and Favour James of the same compound were arrested. Emmanuel confessed that they conspired with Joy and took the baby to one Patience Obana of Kubwa, FCT Abuja to facilitate the sale of the baby, “he stated.

According to the police, the arrests of Joy, Favour, and Patience were made possible through Emmanuel’s information, and the baby was safely rescued.

All suspects are now in custody at SCID Minna for thorough investigation and prosecution.
