Spotify names Ayra Starr biggest female Afrobeats artist

Streaming platform Spotify has unveiled its list of the ‘Top 5 Female Afrobeats Artists in the Last 12 Months,’ with Nigerian singer Ayra Starr leading the rankings.

Spotify described Ayra Starr as “the pop star of Afrobeats.”

Grammy-winning Nigerian artist Tems secured the second position, while American-Cameroonian singer Libianca ranked third.

Malian-French artist Aya Nakamura took fourth place, and British-Nigerian singer Darkoo rounded out the top five.

Notably absent from the list was South African singer Tyla, despite her sweeping major Afrobeats awards over the past year.

Spotify also shared the Top 5 Afrobeats Artists in Latin America, a list dominated entirely by Nigerian performers.

Rema claimed the top spot, followed by Ayra Starr in second place and CKay in third.

Burna Boy and Wizkid were ranked fourth and fifth, respectively.
