Mercy Chinwo, a well-known gospel singer, has taken her former manager, Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, to court over alleged theft of $345K in music royalties.
The Nigerian Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, or EFCC, filed a plea to have the manager appear in court after Chinwo was accused, and the Lagos State federal high court issued an arrest order for him.
On January 24, 2025, Onyedikachukwu will be charged with not paying Chinwo’s rightful portion of the music royalties from the singer’s gigs and internet platforms.
According to an affidavit the Commission provided in support of the application, Mercy Chinwo had petitioned the management.
The application for an arrest warrant was made after the EFCC claims that its attempts to arrest him have failed.
On Thursday, however, Justice Alexander Owoeye approved the application.
According to report, Chinwo won the second Nigerian Idol contest and was signed to the EeZee Conceptz record label by Onyedikachukwu in 2017.
In September 2022, it was widely rumored that Mercy left the record label because of a financial dispute.
