A male student of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Anambra State, tragically lost his life after jumping from a three-storey building at a private lodge near Royal Kitchen Junction, Ifite-Awka.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred late Thursday after the student allegedly consumed unknown substances suspected to be “mkpurummiri”. After falling from the balcony, the student was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
An eyewitness recounted, “We suddenly heard a loud thud yesterday evening, prompting a rush to the scene where the young man was found lying in a pool of his own blood, critically injured.” The victim’s roommate was found incoherent, allegedly under the influence of the same substances.
The roommate is currently in custody and will be questioned further once he regains stability. Authorities are working to contact the deceased’s family and investigate the incident.
UNIZIK’s Chief Safety Officer, Ken Chukwurah, confirmed the incident, stating, “We are still investigating to be sure of what happened, how it happened and the proper identity of the victim.” He added that the incident occurred outside the school premises, and an investigation is ongoing
