One vigilante leader was killed and several others are still unaccounted for after suspected armed herders broke into the Amakohia-Ubi community in Imo State’s Owerri West Local Government Area.
According to reports, the incident happened on Wednesday night about 6:30 p.m., causing fear and a mass evacuation of locals who sought refuge in nearby settlements.
A villager who spoke to a journalist and only identified himself as Mr. Paul claimed that Monday Nwaozuzu, also known as Ojo Ola, the dead vigilante leader, was shot and killed during the altercation.
“The dead, wounded, and missing persons are all members of our community vigilante group.
“Monday Nwaozuzu was killed by the herdsmen, while others are still missing or wounded. At least three members of the vigilante were caught up in the clash,” Paul said.
Henry Okoye, the spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, has not yet answered questions regarding the attack at the time this article was filed.
