In Ogbadigbo LGA, Benue State, the Orokam community has been rocked by yet another violent kidnapping attempt, this time involving a mother’s desperate plea to save her child. According to Vanguard News (Friday, August 15, 2025), armed men
broke into Madam Shaibu’s home at around 11:30 p.m., targeting her son, Gabriel, who had just arrived from Abuja to visit her.
One resident who saw the horrific scene said: “Gabriel had reportedly returned home to bring his mother to the village because his wife was expecting a baby, but that happy reason for travel had turned into a night of terror when gunmen stormed the compound.”
Orokam has been dealing with an increase in violent crime and kidnapping, which has led to local youngsters protesting for increased protection. Locals worry that the assailants are using lax enforcement and inadequate night patrols to conduct raids with minimal opposition.
Locals say the tragedy of that night will follow the family for years, even if Gabriel was able to avoid serious injury.
