A Nigerian technology company, Chedaro, has introduced a digital skills scholarship program, “Equip by Chedaro,” aimed at equipping young Africans with critical skills to participate in the continent’s growing digital economy.

The three-month intensive training program will focus on artificial intelligence, machine learning, digital marketing, web development, and blockchain technology. This initiative comes at a time when Nigeria’s digital economy is experiencing significant growth, with internet penetration soaring, creating a large market for digital services.

However, a significant skills gap exists, hindering the country’s ability to fully capitalize on this potential. Youth unemployment also remains a major challenge, with many young graduates lacking the practical skills needed by employers in the tech sector.

According to Chedaro’s Chief Executive Officer, Uno, the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to driving meaningful societal change through technology. “Our goal is to provide young people with the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the digital economy. This program is a step towards building a future where talent and opportunity meet,” Uno said.

The 90-day program, which commences on February 10, 2025, is open to interested candidates, but spaces are limited. Uno explained that the scholarship program will provide successful applicants with access to high-quality training that many young people typically find prohibitive.

“It will feature industry expert-led training, hands-on projects, and networking opportunities with potential employers. Participants who complete the course will receive recognized certifications in their chosen fields,” he added.

The program is expected to create a positive effect, where trained professionals become change-makers in their communities and industries.
