Over 210 members of Boko Haram, along with their families, have surrendered to troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Sector 2, operating around the Lake Chad area.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by Lt.-Col. Olaniyi Osoba, spokesperson for the MNJTF. He attributed the mass surrender to sustained military pressure through both combat and non-combat strategies in the region.

The individuals who turned themselves in admitted to taking part in numerous terrorist activities across locations such as Bakatolerom, Barkalam, Litri, and Kaiga Ngbouboun along the Lake Chad corridor.

According to the statement, 10 weapons of various types and calibres were recovered during the operation.

Osoba described the surrender as a significant setback for Boko Haram remnants still operating in the region and emphasized the success of the MNJTF’s multidimensional campaign.

Maj.-Gen. Moussa Haussa, the Commander of Sector 2/Operation Lake Chad, has reportedly praised the troops for their efforts and urged them to remain resolute in their mission.

He also confirmed that the surrendered individuals would be treated with dignity and enrolled in the task force’s rehabilitation and reintegration programme.

Additionally, Brig.-Gen. Saleh Haggar Tidjani, Governor of the Region of Chad, received the surrendered individuals and pledged to support their reintegration through vocational training programmes aimed at helping them rejoin society productively.

“This initiative aims to provide them with sustainable livelihoods and support their transition back to peaceful civilian life,” he said.
