The Ability Life Initiative, an institution dedicated to catering for persons with disabilities, is set to host an unveiling event on February 20, 2025, in Abuja. The event, themed “The Journey, The Impact, The Future,” aims to celebrate the organisation’s five-year journey in advocating for the rights and inclusion of persons with disabilities in Nigeria.

According to a statement sent to Society Plus, “The initiative has made remarkable strides over the years through various initiatives that promote inclusivity and empower individuals with disabilities.” The statement highlights notable recent efforts, including a skincare sensitisation program for persons with albinism held in Abuja in 2023. This program provided essential education on skincare and distributed items such as sunscreens and ultraviolet protective sleeves.

Additionally, The Ability Life Initiative organised an outreach program in Imo State in December 2024, further extending its commitment to support vulnerable communities. The event is expected to attract a distinguished lineup of guests from various sectors, including advocacy and governance. Notable guests expected to attend include:

– Mohammed Isa, Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities

– Chidozie Ezechukwu (SAN)

– Olufolake Abdulrazaq, First Lady of Kwara State

– Senator Ned Nwoko

The Ability Life Initiative’s mission aligns with the global push for inclusivity and empowerment of persons with disabilities. As stated by the United Nations, people living with disabilities make up the largest minority group in the world, accounting for roughly 10 percent of the global population.
