In a heartbreaking event on Saturday, a female farmer in Abavo, Delta State’s Ika South Local Government Area, was kidnapped by gunmen posing as herdsmen. Three members of the neighborhood vigilante organization were gravely hurt in the attack.
These injured people were reportedly members of a neighborhood watch that was set up to protect farmers in the area from frequent attacks by herdsmen, according to PUNCH reports.
Pastor Justin Onyeibe, a leader in the Abavo community, revealed facts regarding the scenario. He added that the woman and her husband were working on their property when they noticed the approaching herdsmen.
He reported that the vigilante group came across the herders and was attacked while searching for the farmer who had been abducted. According to him, one group member was treated at an Asaba hospital following the altercation.
Onyeibe said, “The husband and the wife were on the farm when they sighted the herdsmen, so they had to run for their dear lives. Unfortunately, the woman was not able to run, it was only the man who outran them, so they took the woman. The vigilante group was in the bush searching for them, but somehow, they attacked our vigilante people. As l am talking to you, one of them has been referred to a hospital in Asaba.”
