Nigerian singer and politician Bankole Wellington, popularly known as Banky W, has penned an emotional tribute to media personality Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, highlighting his rise from relative obscurity to widespread recognition across the continent.

In a post shared on Instagram, Banky W described Ebuka’s journey as a powerful example of resilience and consistency, emphasizing that his success wasn’t the result of privilege or instant fame.

He pointed out that although Ebuka did not win the first season of the Big Brother Nigeria (BBNaija) reality show finishing in eighth place he has gone on to become one of the most respected figures in African media.

“When you think of Ebuka, don’t just think fashion, fame, or fortune. Think resilience,” Banky W wrote.

“He didn’t win the show, but he won in life.”

He reflected on Ebuka’s early days, recalling how he evolved from being a reality show contestant to a household name—anchoring shows like Rubbing Minds, writing newspaper columns, earning a master’s degree, and consistently pursuing excellence even when the future was uncertain.

Banky W also used a biblical analogy to describe Ebuka’s transformation, likening it to the turning of water into wine, symbolizing that true success often follows long periods of quiet dedication—what he called “filling the jars.”

“Success takes grace and grind. The grace is from God. The grind is from you,” he wrote, urging others to reflect on their own efforts and journeys.
