‘They said my marriage won’t last because’ – woman recount experience as she celebrate 18 years of marriage

A woman, named as Eby, recounts being heavily criticized by her neighbors and others after getting married young.

She claims that soon after her wedding, a woman publicly made fun of her, saying: “Eby, what are you going to do in a man’s house at this your age in the name of marriage? Don’t you know that you are too young for marriage? Your marriage may not last because you are still naive. Chai, onwu nne (mother’s death)! If your mum was alive, she wouldn’t have allowed you to get married at this age.”

Despite the hurtful and nasty statements, Eby remained married and carried on renovating her house.

Life changed the story a few years later. Two daughters were born to the same woman who made fun of her. One married at the age of 17, and another married at the age of 25, but they divorced after only two years.

Eby is currently getting ready to commemorate eighteen years of marriage with her spouse.

She happily shared an old picture from two years into her marriage: “Onu mmadu abughi onu Chukwu (The voice of man is not the voice of God).”

She also pledged to come back soon with the complete account of how she met her spouse, Nwoke Nnobi, as he is affectionately known.
