The INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church’s spiritual leader, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has stated that he was told that Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun could be assassinated because his brother, Isiaka Adeleke, was slain by his political rivals.
In a widely shared video, the priest called on the governor’s followers to observe a three-day fast and offer prayers for Adeleke’s successful reelection, which is set for Saturday, August 8, 2026.
In a video that went viral on social media, Primate Ayodele claimed that President Bola Tinubu was desperate to get Osun to join his ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He also said that it would only be prudent for the governor to leave the Peoples Democratic Party and sign with the APC.
Ayodele claimed that he was informed that if Adeleke chose to stay in his party, there would be sophisticated technical electoral malpractice in the 2026 Osun gubernatorial race, and that federal power may be used to defeat him.
Amid the political upheavals occurring around the nation, especially in the run-up to the general election in 2027, the cleric issued the warning. Governor Adeleke is running for reelection in 2026, and the Osun governorship election is one of Nigeria’s off-season elections.
Governor Adeleke, his nephew, Afrobeats musician David Adeleke, better known by his stage as Davido, and his older brother, Adedeji Adeleke, recently paid President Tinubu a visit at his Lagos home.
The governor was reportedly intending to leave the PDP for the APC in order to win a second term in power in the upcoming Osun governorship election, which coincided with the Adelekes’ visit to the president.
The distribution of local government is another significant political issue trembling the state. The federal government was charged with unlawfully seizing the state council’s allotment in order to carry out the Supreme Court’s ruling.
The governor maintains that those elected on the PDP platform were the legitimate chairman and has refused to acknowledge the APC’s reinstated local government chairmen as determined by the Court of Appeal. Lateef Fagbemi, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, disagreed with Adeleke’s assertion.
A report that previous governor Rauf Aregbesola, who made significant contributions to his government, would not back the governor’s candidacy for a second term in office has also allegedly endangered the governor.
In a widely shared video, the former president addressed the Yoruba governor and threatened to penalize him for being late for the occasion.
Some Nigerians expressed their opinions about the film in the comment area, while the governor and other participants in the video chuckled over the circumstances.
