The Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, has affirmed that President Bola Tinubu remains dedicated to the equitable development of all regions across Nigeria.

Umahi made this statement in response to Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso’s accusation that the Tinubu-led administration is neglecting the North in terms of road infrastructure. He dismissed the allegation as entirely incorrect, misleading, and politically motivated.

According to Umahi, his position as the Works Minister provides him with accurate data to refute the claim. He noted that President Tinubu’s flagship infrastructure projects reflect a balanced approach to national development.

In a personally signed statement issued on Friday in Abakaliki, Umahi outlined the major projects being implemented. These include the 175 km Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway in the South, the 378 km Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway in the North, the 118 km section of the Trans-Sahara Road in Ebonyi State (South), and the Akwanga-Jos-Bauchi-Gombe Road, which is undergoing redesign and construction in the North.

He further explained that based on these projects, the North currently accounts for 52% while the South holds 48% of the total work being executed. Additional ongoing northern projects include the 275 km dualised Sokoto-Zamfara-Katsina-Kaduna Road costing ₦824 billion; the dualised Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Road spanning 350 km at ₦764 billion; the 256 km BUA Tax Credit Road; the 49 km Jigawa-Katsina-Kano Northern Bypass; as well as various works in Borno, Kebbi, Benue, and Kogi states.

Meanwhile, in the South, major ongoing efforts involve the final phase of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, the Lagos-Sagamu–Oyo-Ogbomoso–Ilorin corridor, and structural maintenance of Carter Bridge, Third Mainland Bridge, and Eko Bridge, along with additional infrastructure projects in the Southeast and South-South.

Umahi concluded by promising to release a full list of active projects next week, especially those exceeding ₦20 billion in value.
