Tinubu enjoys strong northern support – APC

Despite what some political experts say, Ayo Oyalowo, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), asserts that President Bola Tinubu continues to have substantial support in northern Nigeria.

Oyalowo denied rumors that the president has lost support in the north ahead of the 2027 elections during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday.

“Tinubu has no problem with the North. Today, the North is well represented in this government. Right now, some of the key positions in this government are occupied by Northerners,” he said.

As an example, he cited the recent appointment of Kano as the location of the Chairman and CEO of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

Those who say differently, he said, are merely angry because they didn’t receive what they wanted.

Oyalowo also brought up recent footage of children in Bauchi and Sokoto cheering after the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) was used by the federal government to pay their school tuition.

“That video was not from Ogbomoso or Lagos, it was Sokoto. Those are real human beings… students came out thanking Tinubu for paying their fees,” he said.

He charged that some Nigerians ignore “the good that is happening” and instead concentrate on the nation’s economic struggles.

Oyalowo added that Tinubu’s actions in the area have received open praise from northern governors.

“Did you listen to the governor of Katsina? Did you hear the governor of Kaduna?“

“These are the leaders in the North right now, and they are informing their people about what Bola Tinubu has done for them,” he said.

He maintained that the true northern people still behind Tinubu, even though he acknowledged that the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has continued to criticize the president.
