Renato Veiga, a versatile defender, has agreed to a loan deal with Juventus and Chelsea.

According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, the Portuguese will remain at Juventus until the end of the current campaign.

The 21-year-old Veige was a target for a number of European clubs, but he decided to go from London to Turin in order to gain regular playing time in his favored position.

Veiga expressed to the Blues’ management his desire to play center back on a regular basis and go out on loan.

According to Romano, the Blues have granted his plea and agreed to let the Juventus trade go through.

The defender will return to Chelsea at the end of the season when the Bianconeri pay a €5 million loan fee.

Veiga, who cost under £12 million to join to Stamford Bridge from FC Basel in the summer, is a versatile player that Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca adores.

Veiga has rarely played at center defense, but Maresca has had him play in midfield and left back.

This season, he has made 18 appearances for Chelsea, contributing two goals and an assist.

Veiga was used as a center-back on his debut and received his first call to the senior Portugal national team this season.
