The Community Reorientation Women Network (CRoWN) has made a significant impact in rural areas across Bauchi, Kano, and Sokoto states, supporting over 50,000 pregnant women in accessing antenatal care services. Additionally, the organisation has facilitated lifesaving vaccinations for over 20,000 children under its pilot program in 39 wards across the three states.
According to Ms. Zouera Yousouffou, Chairperson of CRoWN’s Board of Trustees and Managing Director of the Aliko Dangote Foundation, the organisation’s approach involves influential female volunteers who conduct home visits and refer women and children for necessary services. “CRoWN has galvanised over 5,000 ambassadors, placing them in these women collectives, to provide key messages to carers, identify children and women needing services, and solve identified barriers to seeking health services on a case-by-case basis,” she explained.
Yousouffou highlighted CRoWN’s commitment to advancing human development indices in remote areas, starting with health and planning to expand to education and nutrition. “Our entry point has been health, but we are consolidating and plan to expand to education and nutrition,” she disclosed.
The organisation has also secured the support of three prominent personalities as Founding Board members: Dr. Hadiza Balarabe, Deputy Governor of Kaduna State; Violaine Mitchell, Director of the Global Development Gates Foundation; and Dr. Uche Igbokwe, Executive Director at Salina Centre for Information Development and Research.
Yousouffou called on communities and more volunteers to join the movement, stating, “We need communities and more volunteers to join this movement to transform the lives of millions of women and families across the country.” With its network of ambassadors and partnerships, CRoWN aims to continue making a positive impact in the lives of women and children in need.
