The governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, has reached out to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), its candidate for governor on September 21, 2024, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, and other opposition parties, asking them to stand with him in unity and cooperate for the advancement of the state.

According to ZINGTIE, Governor Okpebholo filed the appeal soon after his electoral triumph was affirmed by the Abuja-based election petition tribunal.

The governor declared that it was time to put aside political disagreements and concentrate on the shared objective of improving Edo State’s future.

According to him, “I wish to express my profound gratitude to the tribunal for their diligence and fairness. I also extend my sincere appreciation to the people of Edo State for their unwavering support and belief in my vision for a prosperous and united state.

“This victory is not mine alone but a victory for every citizen and resident of Edo State. It is a mandate to continue the work we have started—to build a state where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. We remain committed to our promise of good governance, transparency, and inclusive development.

“I call on all citizens, including opposition parties and the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Asue Ighodalo, to join hands in the spirit of unity and work together for the progress of Edo State.

“It is time to put aside partisan differences and focus on the common goal of building a better future for our state,” he said.

However, Okpebholo reaffirmed that his administration is committed to fulfilling the pledges made during the campaign and will not be sidetracked by pointless legal action.

He also reaffirmed his government’s commitment to providing honest and devoted service to the people of Edo State.

According to ZINGTIE, the tribunal rejected all of the PDP’s and its candidate’s petitions following a careful and unbiased review of them. It also confirmed that the election was held in substantial accordance with the Electoral Act and that Governor Monday Okpebholo was legitimately elected.
