Troops arrest suspected suicide bomber, seize IED materials, location revealed

Troops attached to Operation Hadin Kai have apprehended a suspected suicide bomber and recovered items believed to be meant for the fabrication of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in Borno State.

The suspect, Abubakar Mustapha, was arrested on Monday, December 29, by operatives of the 152 Task Force Battalion working alongside other security agencies in Bama Local Government Area.

The development was confirmed on Tuesday by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Northeast Operation Hadin Kai, Lt. Col. Sani Uba, in an official statement.

Lt. Col. Uba disclosed that Mustapha was arrested at the Banki Central Mosque while in possession of activated IED components, suggesting plans for an imminent attack.

Initial findings indicated that the suspect is a native of Bama LGA and had access to other materials associated with terrorist operations.

He is presently being questioned to identify those backing him, his accomplices, and any connections to terror groups operating within the region.

Lt. Col. Uba further assured that personnel of JTF NE Operation Hadin Kai remain fully engaged in intensive patrols, intelligence-driven missions, and sustained ground presence aimed at preventing assaults on civilians and key facilities.

He also called on members of the public to share reliable information to support ongoing counter-terrorism initiatives.

The military reiterated its determination to protect lives and property across the North East, adding that troop morale and operational effectiveness remain strong.

The arrest follows a recent attack in which a suicide bomber killed five people and wounded 35 others at Al-Adum Jumaat Mosque in Gamboru Market, Maiduguri, during evening prayers on December 24.
