President Donald Trump on Friday warned Iran that serious consequences would follow if the country fails to strike a deal on its nuclear program.
Trump made the statement in the Oval Office after Attorney General Pam Bondi administered the oath of office to Alina Habba as the acting U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey.
In response to a question, the president stated that Iran is “very high on my list of things to watch,” urging the nation to engage in negotiations.
“We will have to talk it out or very bad things are gonna happen to Iran, and I don’t want that to happen.
“My big preference is that we work it out with Iran,” Trump hinted. “But if we don’t work it out, bad, bad things are gonna happen to Iran,” he said.
Earlier in March, the US leader sent a letter to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, setting a two-month deadline to reach a new nuclear agreement.
Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, confirmed on Thursday that the response to Trump’s letter was “properly sent via Oman.”
The United States seems to be preparing for military action, having deployed B-2 stealth bombers to the Diego Garcia military base in the Indian Ocean.
In response, last week, Khamenei stated that “threats will never achieve anything,” warning that if attacked, America and its allies “will face severe retaliation.”
On Friday, Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad-Baqer declared that “America’s allies in the region and US bases will become unsafe” if Iran is provoked.
