A Nigerian man in the UK is facing criticism after being accused of providing N30,000 to fund his brother’s wedding.

A person named @thobyiano exposed the problem by expressing his dissatisfaction on X (previously Twitter).

Toby claims that a substantial amount was anticipated from him, especially considering his nation of residence.

In the post, @thobyiano wrote, “How can you be in the UK, and your blood brother is getting married, and all you could send him was 30k? Nobody is being entitled here, but that doesn’t make any sense.

“So, because nobody owes you anything, that’s the reason you’ll send your sibling 30k for his wedding. Na una sabi.”

The tweet generated a contentious discussion with differing views from users. Others supported the man, claiming that the amount of financial help one provides should be determined by one’s own ability and willingness, while others agreed with the sentiment and criticised the man for what they considered to be an inadequate contribution.

A social media user @BecomingDami wrote, “fall in love or get someone pregnant; fix date for wedding; send account number to people for aso-ebi telling them that’s the last one, and they need to act fast. budget: 10M>

plan: people will send me money..”

Another user @GeeKinqest__ added, “The truth is, according to the poster, the sibling abroad is financially well-off. There’s no reason to send your own brother that kinda money for a wedding unless, of course, it’s some form of payback for a wrong they’ve done to you, & you’re deliberately trying to embarrass him.”
