The AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) Nigeria is marking the Day of the African Child by revitalizing its Boys2Men program. The program promotes positive masculinity, early HIV testing, and treatment initiation among adolescent boys and young men.
The foundation stated, “This renewed commitment aims to boost visibility, awareness, and action for adolescent boys and young men in HIV, Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE), and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) programming across the continent.”
AHF Africa Bureau Chief Dr. Penninah Iutung said, “For too long, adolescent boys and young men have been the invisible demographic in the fight against HIV… Revitalizing our Boys2Men program is a bold step to change that narrative.
In a separate development, David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences (DUFUHS) in Ebonyi State has flagged off the EQUI-RESP Africa Project. The project aims to improve equity in respiratory disease outcomes using data-driven tools.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Jesse Uneke, identified respiratory diseases as a major cause of morbidity and mortality in Africa. He noted that the project will provide critical equipment for detecting respiratory diseases and offer free treatment to up to 1,000 patients across six health facilities in Ebonyi State.
The project is funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) United Kingdom and coordinated by the University of Edinburgh, UK. Ebonyi and Lagos states have been selected for the project in Nigeria, which aims to achieve equitable reductions in morbidity and mortality from respiratory diseases.
