On Friday, the United Nations stated that Israeli actions in Gaza, including attacks on populated areas resulting in civilian casualties, show signs of atrocities.

Jens Laerke, a spokesperson for the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, made the statement in Geneva, describing the situation as one of “callous disregard for human life and dignity,” adding that the ongoing actions of war appear to qualify as atrocity crimes.

“Every day we have seen children being killed, aid workers being killed, people being forcibly displaced with no means for their survival,” added Laerke, who also noted the resumption of rocket fire from Palestinian factions in Gaza.

However, Israel denied any violation of humanitarian law, attributing civilian casualties to Hamas fighters operating within civilian areas a claim that Hamas leaders have rejected.

In a separate development, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former defense minister, along with Hamas leaders, have been indicted on war crimes charges by the International Criminal Court in The Hague, although Israel has rejected these charges.

Laerke further pointed out that food and medical supplies are rapidly running out in Gaza due to Israeli restrictions on aid deliveries since March 2.

Netanyahu’s office stated that no goods or supplies would be allowed into Gaza until all hostages were released.

The World Food Programme reported having only 5,700 tonnes of food left in Gaza, which would support its operations for a maximum of two weeks. The World Health Organization also reported critical shortages of blood supplies needed for treating the wounded in the region.
