University Hikes Accommodation Fees for Students

The management of a university has increased accommodation fees for its students, according to adjusted figures posted on the institution’s website over the weekend.

The new fees show significant increases across various hostels. For instance, the regular hostels (Halls 1, 2, 3, & 4) will now cost N31,000 per session, up from N27,200.

Other hostels have also seen substantial hikes. The NDDC hostel will now cost N60,000, up from N52,000, while Hall 5 will cost N46,000, up from N40,000. Hall 6 will now cost N73,000, up from N64,000.

The Festus Akingbola hostel has also seen significant increases, with the 2-per-room, 2nd-floor accommodation now costing N100,000, up from N80,600. The 4-per-room, top bunk accommodation will now cost N46,000, up from N40,000, while the 4-per-room, down bunk accommodation will cost N71,000, up from N64,000.

Other hostels, including the Intercontinental hostel, PG Hostel Ekewan, Clinical hostel, Hall 7, Keystone hostel, TETFund hostels, and Senator Danjuma hostel, have also seen increases in their fees.

When contacted, a university official said, “We are yet to issue a formal statement on the development.”

The reason for the increment is yet to be disclosed, leaving students and parents wondering about the sudden hike in fees.

“This is a significant increase, and it will be difficult for many of us to afford. We hope the management will reconsider this decision.
