The 12th All-Nigeria Universities Debating Championship (ANUDC) came to a close with the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) emerging as overall champions in public speaking and winners of the novice debate stream.

In the Debate Mainstream category, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, clinched the championship title, while the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, and Veritas University, Abuja, secured second and third place, respectively.

UNILORIN also excelled in the Novice Debate, claiming first place ahead of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and the Federal University of Technology, Akure. The institution further celebrated individual brilliance, with Olafisoye Alexander and Tivlumun Alexander ranking among the top three Best Speakers of the tournament.

In the Quiz Challenge, the University of Uyo emerged champions, while the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, came second, and UNILORIN finished in third place.

The championship attracted participants from across the country, including the University of Ibadan, University of Nigeria Nsukka, University of Uyo, Lagos State University, Al-Hikmah University Ilorin, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Bayero University Kano, Nile University of Nigeria, University of Maiduguri, and many others.

Closing the event, members of the Organising Committee praised the competition’s impact on young people.

“This Championship has provided a platform for nurturing critical thinking, leadership, and intellectual exchange among Nigerian youths,” they said.

“We commend the University of Ilorin for hosting this successful 12th edition and urge participants to carry the lessons of teamwork, excellence, and constructive dialogue into their future engagements.

Participants expressed heartfelt appreciation for the hospitality of the host university.

“UNILORIN provided a truly conducive environment for intellectual competition,” one participant noted.

“The logistics were seamless, adjudication was fair, and the reception from the Local Organising Committee was warm and welcoming,” another participant added.

Others described the experience as unforgettable.

“This championship is more than a contest; it is a lifelong memory that combined competitive spirit with friendship and cultural exchange,” a student remarked.

With its outstanding performance and successful hosting, UNILORIN reinforced its reputation as a hub of academic and intellectual excellence, while the ANUDC once again proved its role in shaping Nigeria’s next generation of thinkers and leaders
