Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) Awka has banned final-year students from participating in examination orchestration (“signing off”) with immediate effect. The university’s registrar, Dr. Chinenye Okeke, cited recurring incidents of chaos, violence, and disruption of normal activities as the reason for the ban.
In a statement, Okeke said, “The university management wishes to inform you that, effective immediately, all forms of orchestration (‘signing off’) related to final examinations by final-year students are completely and indefinitely banned from the university premises.” Okeke emphasised that the presence of unauthorised individuals on campus poses a threat to safety and security, and the university has taken this step to maintain order and protect life and property.
The university has warned students that any involvement in orchestration or related activities will attract severe disciplinary measures, including rustication. “Any student found involved in orchestration (‘signing off’) or related activities risks severe disciplinary measures, including rustication,” the statement read. Okeke also warned that outsiders entering the university premises to support such activities may face arrest and prosecution for disorderly conduct and breach of peace.
The university management remains committed to providing a safe and secure environment for academic pursuits. “We urge all students to focus on their academic responsibilities and report any instances of misconduct or threats to safety to the appropriate authorities,” Okeke said
