The Defence Headquarters, DHQ, has announced that a damage assessment of recent US attacks conducted in collaboration with Nigerian soldiers is still underway.
Maj. Gen. Michael Onoja, Director of Defence Media Operations, made the statement while speaking to reporters on Wednesday.
Onoja also claimed that the military will make its results public once the review was complete.
The clarification comes amid extensive disagreement in the country over whether the strike was successful or not.
“On the United States strikes in conjunction with Nigerian forces, there is a process of battle damage assessment.
“We are still in that process, and I can assure you that once that is completed, we will communicate to the public all our observations. In due course, we will give you all the information that you require from the US–Nigeria strikes,” Onoja said.
According to ZINGTIE, President Donald Trump of the United States said on Christmas Day that the American military had carried out devastating attacks against Islamic State sites in northwestern Nigeria.
The federal government confirmed the collaborative effort, describing it as part of continuous counterterrorism cooperation.
