On Sunday, the Donald Trump team revealed that gunfire had been heard near the Republican presidential contender and former president.
Trump’s campaign claimed that the former president is safe despite the gunfire.
The gunfire occurred close to Trump’s West Palm Beach, Florida golf course.
But according to a statement from Steven Cheung, the campaign spokesperson, “President Trump is safe following gunshots in his vicinity. No further details at this time.”
Additionally, the US Secret Service stated that an investigation into the incident was still underway.
“The Secret Service, in conjunction with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, is investigating a protective incident involving former President Donald Trump that occurred shortly before 2 p.m. The former president is safe,” the Secret Service said in a statement.
This occurs just months after a 20-year-old made an attempt on Trump’s life in Pennsylvania while he was campaigning for office.
Thomas Mathew Cook attempted to take down Trump with multiple shots, but was unable to take down the former president.
