Senators from both parties have expressed differing opinions toward US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.
Republicans are supporting President Donald Trump’s support for Hegseth, while Democrats are demanding his resignation.
This is in spite of Pentagon concerns about Hegesth’s capacity to carry out his duties in the wake of a second alleged leaked war talk.
The majority of Republican lawmakers are supporting the defense secretary, mainly in line with Trump.
The Democrats believe he should step down because he is incompetent.
In a post on Senate Republican’s X account on Tuesday, the negative publicity was attributed to “disgruntled” former employees: “Secretary Pete Hegseth is a veteran who is implementing President Trump’s America first agenda. Disgruntled former employees at the Pentagon are trying to undermine the agenda that Americans voted for.”
Marsha Blackburn, a Republican member from Tennessee, had already accused the Democrats of conspiring against the secretary.
“Of course the left, libs, and leakers are angry with Pete Hegseth. He is a strong @SecDef who is shaking up the status quo at the Pentagon to fight back against America’s greatest threats. Our military and nation are stronger because of his courage to serve,” he wrote on X.
Former Pentagon staff were “trying to undermine” both Hegseth and Trump’s objectives, according to Senate intelligence committee chair Tom Cotton. Additionally, House Armed Services Committee member Cory Mills stated on X: “I fully stand with and support @SecDef.”
However, Democratic lawmaker Angie Craig responded to that NBC News report by saying Hegseth ought to be sacked for “gross negligence” that had endangered US service members: “He never should’ve been hired in the first place, but his gross negligence in putting our service members at risk is more than enough to be fired for.”
His resignation was also called by Debbie Wasserman Schulz:, “Pete Hegseth’s incompetence is a threat to our national security. He needs to resign immediately.”
Earlier on Tuesday, Donald Trump Jr. responded to accusations that a second signal chatroom, which was used to discuss classified military operations, had been released.
In an opinion piece published by Politico on Sunday, former Pentagon Spokesperson John Ullyot, who resigned last week, claimed that staff drama has overtaken the Pentagon.
He described the crisis as a “full-blown meltdown” that might result in the dismissal of US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, 44.
Trump responded by claiming that the writer is “officially exiled” from his political party.
