UVA Health Receives $2 Million to Upgrade Mother-Baby Unit Facilities
The University of Virginia Health (UVA Health) has announced a significant $2 million gift from the Cecil and Irene Hylton Foundation to support upgrades to the mother-baby unit at its Prince William Medical Center in Manassas. This donation contributes to the medical center’s campaign to renovate the unit and enhance its labor and delivery capabilities.
The upgrades will focus on improving patient care areas to accommodate increased volume, incorporating new technology such as ultraviolet incubators and AI-powered diagnostic tools, and enabling more personalized and holistic patient care through the integration of doulas and birth coaches.
According to Erik Shannon, CEO of UVA Health’s community medical centers and clinics in northern Virginia and Culpeper County, “This contribution to such a vital initiative is not only immensely rewarding for our patients, but also a testament to the Cecil and Irene Hylton Foundation’s commitment to making a meaningful difference.”
Shannon added, “As part of our 10-year strategic plan, we are dedicated to continuously enhancing and optimizing our resources, and this gift is a significant step forward.” The upgrades to the mother-baby unit will significantly enhance the medical center’s ability to provide high-quality care to mothers and babies in the region.
