The Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Hon. Mrs. Ify Obinabo has cleared the air on the stories and responses surrounding the activities of a young woman who purportedly began acting peculiar after being thrown from a vehicle by unidentified individuals in Awka, the state capital.

Remember that a video recently began viral on several social media sites, showing a lady who was alleged to be “acting strange” and “misbehaving” at the famed Aroma Junction in Awka.

The unidentified lady, as shown in the video, was seen ranting and addressing pedestrians with language that didn’t match and in a way that appeared unusual to them, causing a scene as others gathered to observe and film her.

According to sources and background conversations in the video, the lady “started behaving that way” as soon as she was dropped off in an unidentified vehicle.

Further replies from netizens opined that the lady may have been diabolically “used for sacrifice” or money ritual by the guys who dropped her, whom many also assumed to be the flamboyant and diabolic online fraudsters known as “Yahoo Boys” or “G-Guys”.

“One girl down, one Benz up,” a netizen remarked in one of the social media comment sections, reacting to the viral footage of the Lady as the story spread.

However, when contacted by this reporter, Izunna Okafor, for her reactions to the incident, the Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Hon. Mrs. Ify Obinabo, who also visited the scene to make further inquiries, said the accounts and details obtained from some of the eyewitnesses at Aroma Junction clearly suggest that the circumstances that resulted in the lady’s strange acts were completely different from the popular narrative being peddled online.

According to the Commissioner, information obtained from reliable sources on the scene indicates that the lady’s condition may have spiritually stemmed from her natural or divine call as a person, and may not have any connection to money rituals or Yahoo Boys, as has been unverifiably circulated on social media.

Commissioner Obinabo stated that the lady, identified as a student of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, was later rescued that day by her fellow students who identified her, mobilized to the scene with a tricycle (Keke), and took her away for safety shortly after seeing videos of her trending on social media.

According to sources, the students involved in the help and rescue operation that day at the scene proved to know the lady and confirmed that she had been experiencing such temporary strange challenges on a regular basis, indicating that she has a natural calling that she has yet to respond to.

These clarifications were backed up by another revelation from eyewitnesses at the Aroma Junction, who stated that the lady alighted from a public transport (NOT a private vehicle) before the incident began that day, contrary to the incorrect and unverifiable narrative being spread on social media that she was pushed out of a private/Yahoo’s boys vehicle.

“From all that have been said and verified from different sources and eyewitnesses, you can see that what actually happened was totally a different story from what is being peddled online,” Commissioner Obinabo declared.

“So, it is my advice that people should always verify things before circulating or before rushing to social media, to avoid adding to an existing problem or worsening an existing trauma,” she concluded, while also assuring to undertake further steps into the lady’s ordeal.

As at the time of writing, Izunna Okafor, a reporter, is also working to determine the lady’s current condition and whereabouts.
