Ajayi’s close colleague and confidante recently offered a persuasive narrative of his behaviour in the days leading up to the incident.

She described how, on the Thursday before the fatal Sunday, Ajayi was extremely insistent that she visit his house following their rehearsal at a resort.

In her word, she said: ”Two days before he killed Salome, he was moody and asked me to come to his house”.

Despite his constant requests, she denied and instead chose to leave with her friends. She elaborated: “He actually tried all he could but I stood my ground; he didn’t even know when I left.”

This colleague also noticed a significant difference in Ajayi’s behaviour that Thursday. Typically, Ajayi did not spend the night at the resort during practice sessions. However, on this occasion, he preferred to sleep there and acted depressed, isolating himself from others. Reflecting on this, she stated, “I thought maybe he needed space. Had it been that I followed him, maybe I would have been the one facing Salome’s story.”

She also described an event with a mutual friend, who had been to Ajayi’s house for a rehearsal with her brother. At the end of the lesson, Ajayi begged that she return alone for additional practice, but her brother refused. These incidents led her to assume that Ajayi may have had malicious intents, as she stated, “I think Ajayi had already planned to kill someone in his house.”

Following Salome Adaidu’s death, Ajayi was arrested and charged with culpable homicide. He appeared before Justice Simon Aboki of the High Court of Justice in Lafia, Nasarawa State, and pleaded not guilty to the charge. The case has been moved to March 17-20 for trial.

The legal actions are still ongoing, and the court intends to ensure a fair and fast trial. The prosecutor has expressed confidence in the evidence presented, noting, “We have overwhelming evidence to sustain the charge, and we are optimistic that justice will be done.”

As the case progresses, the testimonies of people close to Ajayi reveal a more complete picture of the events leading up to this fatal catastrophe. The gospel music community and the general public are awaiting the court’s decision in the hopes that Salome Adaidu will be granted justice.
