VIDEO: Edo Police arrest man for murder of 21-yr-old lady, recover her body from shallow grave

With the Edo State Police Command confirming the arrest of 31-year-old Joshua Osaigbovo in connection with the alleged murder of 21-year-old Osato Festus Edogiaweria, the tragic case of a missing young woman has taken a dark turn.

Following weeks of inquiry by the State Criminal Investigations Department and the police Family Unit, the culprit was apprehended on June 18, 2025. Osaigbovo admitted to killing the woman and burying her in a shallow grave close to his house in the Iyanomon community of the Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area, according to police spokesperson CSP Moses Yamu.

The case started on April 25 when Osato’s mother, Mrs. Ojo, reported him missing to the Aduwawa Police Division. She reported to the authorities that her daughter had gone out with a friend five days prior, on April 20, and had never come back.

After the case was transferred to the SCID, detectives located Osaigbovo using a mix of technical tools and intelligence collection methods. He allegedly acknowledged inviting Osato to his house on April 27 during questioning. A violent struggle is said to have resulted from an argument. According to Osaigbovo, Osato died after hitting her head on the ground after falling during the altercation.

The suspect revealed to authorities that he buried her in a shallow hole after wheelbarrowing her body to a nearby thicket. He escorted officers to the precise spot on June 20th, where Osato’s remains were dug up.

The suspect was further connected to the crime when her cell phone was found on him. Osaigbovo will face charges in court after the investigations are over, according to CSP Yamu, who also stated that the required forensic and legal procedures are in progress.

On social media, especially TikTok, users have voiced their disgust at the occurrence and their sympathies to the bereaved family, sparking a wave of fury and grief.

The Edo State Police Command reaffirmed its resolve to see that justice is done and to keep up its campaign against violent crimes in the state.
