The animal murdered one of the emir’s staff members, therefore the State Governor, Zayyanu Abdullahi, ordered the animal to be slaughtered on Monday, October 7, according to AIT News.

The hippopotamus was taken down by the efforts of 40 fisherman using bows and arrows after a long search.

A number of Facebook videos capture the moment the animal was killed and then transported in a dugout canoe to the Palace of the District Head of Gungu, Kasimu Aliyu, where it was butchered and its pieces distributed to the populace as meat.
