Nigerian musician 9ice, whose real name is Alexander Adegbola Akande, has talked about a harrowing spiritual experience that nearly ended his life.
Speaking on a recent episode of The Nancy Isime Show, which was uploaded to X on Sunday, the Gongo Aso singer disclosed that after a spiritual attack in 2010, he once vomited blood nonstop for six months.
He stated that there was no medical explanation for the condition and that meeting an Ifa priest was the only thing that helped him recover.
9ice said, “Several times,” in response to host Nancy Isime’s question about if he had faced spiritual struggles during his career as a musician.
She further asked: “What’s that one spiritual battle you went through that you thought you would not get out of?”
9ice responded: “When I was vomiting blood for about six months in my own house. I had to leave my house. It happened in 2009/2010. It wasn’t a medical condition.”
In response to a question regarding self-defense, the musician revealed a startling aspect of his spiritual journey.
“I’m not a Christian or a Muslim, I’m a Babalawo. I’m an African. I’m a traditionalist. The first time I experienced Ifa was when I was vomiting blood. Someone referred me to Ifa. I just wished that I had known Ifa at the beginning. Fela used to go to Ogun and people were mocking him, but now, I understand.”
9ice continued by stating that he now completely supports Ifa and African mysticism and urging Africans to rediscover their traditional roots and values.
