A trending video of a police officer in Lagos falling into a gutter on the street has generated a lot of discussion on the internet.

The officer can be seen straining to crawl out of the pit in the widely shared video, while others swarm around to look inside and see how he is doing. Later, someone brought him a ladder to help him get out of the ditch.

However, the response from a large number of social media users has prompted inquiries as to why the occurrence seemed to have amused or pleased so many individuals. Could this be an indication of how the public feels about Nigerian police in general?
