In Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, a man named Jeremiah Kosesochi Nwoke is said to have perished in a strange occurrence while attempting to steal the venerated Agemo monument at the Itoro Roundabout.
Residents are shocked by the tragedy, which happened during the night. The Agemo monument, a prominent Ijebuland cultural icon, is located close to the roundabout that leads to the Awujale of Ijebuland’s ultramodern palace.
The suspect made several efforts to move the statue, which is known to be deeply erected and well protected, according to local sources and eyewitness accounts. He reportedly succeeded in removing it after multiple unsuccessful attempts, but he passed away soon after while trying to escape with the sculpture.
Discussions in the community have been sparked by the strange incident, with some blaming the suspect’s death on spiritual repercussions related to the statue’s cultural significance.
Investigations are apparently under progress, although authorities have not yet issued an official comment about the incident. Since then, the statue has been found and put back in its original location.
Residents are still in disbelief, with many calling the incident terrible and mysterious.
