Recently, a 17-year-old junior high school graduate talked about his upsetting experience of turning to money rituals in an effort to help his housewife mother and unemployed father.

On TV3’s Confessions, the adolescent vented his anguish, revealing that his father’s job loss three months ago prompted him to look for unorthodox financial support.

“I’m frustrated, I can’t sleep, I can’t learn… the snake is still in the room, I don’t think I can go back into the room,” he said this while appearing on TV3’s Accra-based confessional show, Confessions.

Inspired by the ostensibly successful lifestyles of his friends who had vehicles and rented homes, the adolescent turned to them for advice.

They presented him with a ritualist’s spiritual remedy, which they said would help his family’s financial problems.

“I spoke to them and they said they would show me the way, I was interested because I wanted to take my family out of that line. To my surprise, we went to a mallam and the solution to my problem was spiritual money,” he recounted.

The adolescent claims that at midnight, the ritualist gave him a pot and told him to perform incantations. However, he was traumatised when he encountered a giant snake during the ritual, which turned the experience into a horrifying one.

The kid, unable to handle the fallout, turned to a pastor for support, who suggested that he go back to the ritualist to undo the consequences.

When he returned, he was shocked to find that the Beninese ritualist had already departed, putting the kid and his family in danger.

“My family and I went to the mallam and to our surprise he wasn’t there… he came from Benin and I was told he’s gone back to his country,” he added.
