Olamide, a Nigerian woman, described how, in the first month of her stay in the United States, she nearly was detained by the police.
After the encounter, she offered a valuable lesson that sparked reactions.
The woman talked candidly about the event that nearly resulted in her imprisonment in a TikTok video posted by @midecious033.
The single mother, who was also a student, said that she was persuaded to pick up a laptop from school by a friend, but that she then left it on the bus.
She claimed that it wasn’t until the bus departed that she realized she had forgotten it.
Her words: “I got off at my stop, stood in front of an apartment building and started crying like a baby. I was completely lost.”
She said the apartment’s owners called the police on her as she was crying.
The woman added: “I was so scared. Then they asked what the problem was, and I explained. Then they told me I was loitering. That was the day I learnt never to stand around in front of people’s houses looking confused.”
