A suspected online scammer, referred to locally as a “Yahoo boy,” reportedly named his newborn daughter after the very people he defrauded, sparking a contentious naming ceremony that has sparked significant criticism on social media.
The incident was made public because user@ChuksEricE shared a video on X (previously Twitter) that went viral. The video shows a man who is presumably a pastor officiating the child’s name during a church ceremony.
Online watchers are shocked and horrified by the father’s decision to use his daughter’s name to permanently memorialize the names of his deceived clients, according to the post’s description.
Hotly debated discussions and condemnations swiftly sprang out on social media, with many people calling the behavior callous and insulting to the victims.
This odd and provocative display raises issues about the attitude and aggressiveness of some fraudsters, further stoking conversations on the societal consequences of internet scams in Nigeria.
